More than travel software: web development

December 22, 2025

R24k is known today for travel software, but web development came first. I started building websites in 2011, long before the R24k Travel Manager existed. In the early years I worked with Drupal and Joomla. Over time, WordPress clearly proved to be the most practical and sustainable platform and eventually won. Font Awesome has been part of my workflow since 2012 and YOOtheme since 2013. Those tools are still in daily use today and form the basis of how many R24k websites are built.

R24k grew out of this web development background. The travel software came later.

From websites to travel software

On 1 January 2018, I started building the R24k Travel Manager. In a few days, that marks six years. The Travel Manager did not replace web development. It was built on top of it.

That is also why WordPress and the Travel Manager work so well together. Travel packages created in the Travel Manager can be exported directly into WordPress websites. No copy-paste, no double content, no separate systems drifting apart.

Custom functionality is the default

Most websites I build are not off-the-shelf. They include custom logic tailored to the business. That can be package displays, quotation viewers, enquiry flows, client document areas, admin tools, or integrations with internal systems.

At the same time, not every project needs to be complex. I also build simple, fast websites. Clean HTML-style pages, lightweight WordPress installs, or small brochure sites when that is all that is needed.

Hosting and maintenance

I host and maintain websites on DigitalOcean. This allows full control over performance, security, updates, and backups. Sites are monitored and maintained, not handed over and forgotten.

So yes, we also build websites

Websites, travel software, and infrastructure are different layers of the same stack at R24k. For some clients, a website is the starting point. For others, it is the piece that connects everything together.
